Who’d’a thought kids their ages would have such complicated relationships? Don’t remember anything from my high school days—then again, I might’ve been too dense to notice.
I blame modern Soap Operas. (That and smart phones.) Kids think if their life isn’t a drama, then there’s something wrong and it’s working it’s way down age groups.
(Grumble, grumble, youth of today..etc.. When I was a lad.)
Would have graduated in ’84 and yeah, junior high was filled with drama, love triangles. Girls leaving A for B then going back to A while secretly (not so secretly) dating C. People getting decked with brass knuckles. I got slashed on the arm. M80’s flushed in the toilets. It was a drama-llama ding-dong time I almost miss.
It’s easy to forget that Cas ISNT human, she’s a plant.
Plants have some pretty direct wham, bam, thank you ma’am reproduction strategies, but Cas lives in a human world and tries to conform to human norms even when her own body says she should be doing things a whole lot different.
This human relationship crap is clearly very tough for her, made all the worse because she was always the sister who understood people… but she has never known anyone else like herself, so attraction, relationships outside of friends and family… it’s all a mystery how this intersects inside her.
I suspect if she followed her genetic imperatives the way her body wants her to, people would freak. Frankly, everyone is expecting her to be a ‘girl’. That’s just one suit of many she wears.
Well, both Scar and Day had a go getting through that overgrown bramble-weed using their unique and individual strategy, and it seems Day was relatively more effective (or maybe it’s just because Scar has only relatively recently started being friends with Stela at all)
Or maybe they could both have minded their own damn business from the start. For all their talk about Castella being naive, they’re displaying a tremendous amount of it themselves, thinking that they can force people together.
Scarlett, Daylla, YOU ARE NOT HELPING, SHUT UP, AND STOP TRYING TO MANIPULATE YOUR “FRIEND”.
They are not trying to force anyone together, they are trying to get Stela to understand what the hael is going on, so far, they have been subtle about it, if they were being ‘heavy-handed’ or attempting to force people together, they would have outright said it!
Stela still hasn’t twigged to why she is reacting to the mere mention of Hiroshi’s name, let alone literally running into him in the hallway
You’re right, they’re not trying to force anyone together. Instead, they’ve manipulated her into a situation she’s obviously having difficulty processing and thus far, instead of helping her try and figure it out and all, they keep trying to shove her back into the deep end even though it’s obviously making things more difficult. I understand they mean well, but outright telling her would actually be less destructive here
As I mentioned above, I suspect the real issue is that Cas doesn’t have an adult bramble template to explain or form relationship rules on- she’s trying to use the rules from animals, and she ISN’T an animal.
Plants do everything… far more bluntly and abrupt. No tree is worrying about how that bee felt about last night and tending after fruit that dropped off a branch. I suspect that her biologic imperative is the one night stand- far more like an adult human male, and following that behavior would seriously freak out her friends and family.
And of course if she starts leaving little brambles everywhere…
As a plant, her race’s rules on relationships and mating might curl some hair.
This is what happens when people don’t mind their own business. None of this nonsense would have happened if Daylla and Scarlett hadn’t tried to “help”.
her sister cant read people and she’s clueless about relationships.. perfect pair.. between the two of them they could decimate the lives of everyone they love or hold dear..
Both sisters are still young. Experience helps, even if one literally can’t read people via the normal “instinctive” method one can get better at it as a skill.
In Castella’s case… give me a break. This is only happening because her friends are evidently both idiot shippers.
It kinda makes sense that she would become more and more socially inept over time. She has no actual template of her own kind to emulate, so she imprinted on Atsali first, and later on her “Mom”. She imitates her “sister”, and to a lesser extent her “Mother” – of course she is clueless! That’s how she thinks she should be, following her “sister’s” example…
Just to point out a simple fact; jealousy, possessiveness, and sexual exclusivity are all pretty much unknown concepts in the plant kingdom. As are embarrassment, inhibition, self-consciousness, and puberty.
So, Castela clearly takes after her mammalian parent in some ways. Otherwise there wouldn’t be much of interest to write a story about, except to the point of Hiroshi freaking out over it.
XD Go Scarlett!

Went to an all-boys high school, myself. Sorta missed out on all the drama.
Then again I don’t think boys are anywhere near as drama-sensitive as the girls are. Same planet, different worlds!
Co-ed private school. There must’ve been something going on somewhere and I just didn’t see it. I went through school in “a large group of one.”

horsepucky as long as there has been high school there has been drama.

I predict a change of scene.
That is one of the most believable refusals to understand I have ever seen/read. Bravo to Paul.
As someone who had zero people sense growing up, I can also see it being a very believable inability to understand, as well.

It’s enough to make you want to crawl into your pot until spring.
Anyone who’s raised teens would’ve thought it.

The heavy handed way they’re going abut this is likely to cause a few tears..or property damage, given the types of people involved here.

And we thought Atsali was the one immune to obvious, social cues. Maybe, when it comes to feelings, Castella is in a persistent vegetative state.
When your “friends” have gotten your own confused emotions as wound up as they have here, anything can be easily missed
This is what happens when people don’t mind their own business. None of this nonsense would have happened if Daylla and Scarlett hadn’t tried to “help”.
Just an observation: was Castela intentionally “bred” to not understand mating urges, so as to instead focus on her role as a WMD?
her sister cant read people and she’s clueless about relationships.. perfect pair.. between the two of them they could decimate the lives of everyone they love or hold dear..

Why? So Daylla can tease her and make everything worse some more?
Gee, who would’ve thought ATSALI would be the more socially aware one between her and Castela?
The love triangle reached critical tension and is about to collapse…
