Isn’t it counter-productive to destroy the Pedistal, and expect Shelly to dispense Life Lessons from it?
… OH! A Napalm Luck, we tease Chris Hazelton about it All-the-TIME, but doesn’t hai-shine look more like this: http://www.misfile.com/comics/2018/11/20181126_3Irw.jpg
Luci, Mistress of the Burn, sprinkles that s$*t everywhere…but what is up with Shelly’s left ear in the last panel? It seems to grow right out of her jawline, but it looks normal in 1 and 2.
An embolism is an obstruction in an artery (clot or air bubble). In a broader sense, it’s a blockage in a circulatory vessel.
Plants do have a circulatory system… the xylem carries water and nutrients upwards, the phloem carries sugars from the leaves back down to the roots. Either of these can be blocked… fungal infections and beetle infestations sometimes kill plants by blocking the xylem channels…
… and it turns out that “xylem embolism” actually is a thing… lots of literature references come up in a Google search. It occurs when lack of water causes the water column in the xylem channels to fragment and cavitate, disrupting the capillary system.
Clearly, standing there with her mouth open for so long was causing Castela’s tissues to dry out, sending her towards a xylem embolism. No drought about it!
(Dave places an old 8-track recording of “Midnight At The Oasis” into the Pun Jar)
You know Issac Asimov once devoted 5 or 6 PAGES of a serious Science Article, on the Liver and Gaul Bladder, merely to be able to point out that: …..
Wait for it.
“All Gaul is divided into three parts.”
He probably meant aneurysm, a weakened and ballooned section of blood vessel which can burst during an high blood pressure event. Easy nuff mistake to make.
Judging by what Luci is sayin in panel_3, I’d say it appears that she ^has^ been informed about Shelly being a sphinx (whether or not she also knows about Shelly being Phix’s grand-daughter is still uncertain😞)
Not helping, Ljci.
Sure she is. She’s helping herself to some more popcorn! XD
Then it *was* popcorn in the bag.
Ok, that answers the question about how well clued-in Luci is. She knows about the Time Forest.
Also… I’d say that the hatchet isn’t entirely buried. I think I see a bit of the handle sticking out of Shelly’s left scapula.
Always with the burns with this one….
Hey! Did Luci just address Shelly by her first name? Is that a step in the right direction, or is it Luci being even less respectful?
That is what caught my eye at first.
Will Lucy mention Justin next?
No, because Justin is an active LEO, and Luci’s still got a rap sheet that hasn’t entirely been wiped.
So they did tell Luci about the forest.

%#*$*!!! Key-board!
… Hoow dooes thei hair shine at NIGHT anyway?

Panel two is also a jaw-ear
Don’t look into it too much, it’s just artistic
limitationsstyleLOL!
Well, perhaps not THAT much truth!
Is Shelly’s hair going grey on the sides or is that just a buzz cut?
I think buzz cut. I don’t think Shelly ages.
She would, if she were only quarter Sphinx, but she’s also half Titan, Olympian, or whatever.
It’ll be back to long once she sneezes.
bwahahahahaha. Wait till the stinkweed finds out about aunt monica or Jin.
We all learn at our own pace.
SHEESH! is Luci STILL shoving icicles into Shelly???
Misdirected attraction (as in, Luci is using it to hide her real feelings, maybe even from herself)
Also…how can Plant Girl have an embolism? This is someone who, when younger, used to stick scissors in her head and pretend to be a water pump.

Asimov had a masterful way with a well-turned shaggy dog story that I’m not sure has ever been equaled.
I remember that story . . .
I used to be fairly good at them myself, but I no longer have the patience.
The trick was to escape while your victim was still stunned by the sheer awfulness of the pun.
Tom Smith, the “World’s Fastest Filker” is Asimov’s spiritual successor – he has a way with shaggy dog lyrics…
Spider Robinson is doing a pretty fair job of keeping the “run away screaming and holding your nose” evil wordplay tradition alive in the SF genre.
Heh. Yes, Spider is quite an inspiration to those of us who are primer to that particular sorry of evil. 😎
Don’t taunt the apex predator Luci.
