Don’t knock crickets if you haven’t tried them. The toasted crickets I’ve tried (in Laos) tasted like a cross between Fritos corn chips, and deep-fried shrimp.
Ok, I’m now intrigued. How do they compare to shrimp chips, let’s say… Nong Shim brand? (I prefer Calbee, they’re baked instead, so they’re less greasy.)
I don’t think I’ve ever had shrimp chips so I can’t give you a firsthand comparison. The crickets and grasshoppers I had in Laos were somewhat crunchy but not at all difficult to chew, and not greasy at all. I’m not sure whether they were toasted dry or in some amount of oil… I don’t think they were deep-fried but I could be wrong.
If you’re used to shrimp, in chips or barbequed, I suspect you’d find fried insects to be quite palatable. Insects and crustaceans aren’t very far apart, biologically.
Aquatic bug, or land bug.
If you’ll eat one, why not another?
Crabs and lobsters are just large, salt-water breathing cousins to spiders and scorpions.
Those are just the bugs we eat deliberately, of course… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=netUeZ5lapI
Eh, small spiders are good housemates… I tend to move them if I find them in the bedroom or somewhere inconvenient, but otherwise leave them alone. The problem with these ones is that they’re definitely not *small* spiders…
Loved Made in Abyss and Girls Last Tour. Watched them together for a season and had a joke about how Made in Abyss was climbing down and Girls Last Tour was climbing up, that the two shows would meet each other at the end of their season run.
Woah! Time Out! Doesn’t Monica’s Charge, who shhe’s Mentoring allow her friends to refer to her as Cricket?!! I doubt she considers herself “ugly.” At least not more so than any other teenage girl.
Remember, Calista once offered Digit a big handful of juicy black crickets to eat. I don’t think she’s overly attached to the insects that were the source of her nickname.
My mother was raised as farm girl, and would never let us kill spiders. She would always gently remind us: “Do you really want to discover what it is they’re eating?” Crickets? Crickets are musical, and Orthoptera are handy little thermometers, if you know how to listen. https://www.loc.gov/rr/scitech/mysteries/images/cricket-big.jpg
Those spiders have good taste in anime.
But not so much in snacks…

I had no idea what those titles were, but I’m glad somebody did…
Ditto.
Crickets may be the protein of the future
I am glad I don’t live in Monica’s and Diget’s place. That many spiders is too many.

..small.. i live with 3,,, rose hair, clydesdale tarantula, an a bird eater.. an one is the size of a small couch cushion ..
The spiders I don’t mind. I’d have more trouble with the crickets.
They’re likely giant Jerusalem crickets; ugly, bloated hexapods that are WAY larger than those wee spiders…
I have a feeling that these are Library spiders.
Don’t those normally feed on bookworms?
Or Mama Spider’s babies all grown up…
Digit’s siblings, or are you implying the one next to Digit is her boyfriend?
That’s Mama Spider next to Digit
Digit would be most likely to have a marathon with old friends than strangers!
I’m imagining how the crickets feel, seeing that swarm coming at them.
“Uh, oh…
I was thinking something in the line of ~/O quam sancta,/~
Can 4 large crickets feed that many spiders?
They’ll divide them up as a snack. But the real reason for going as a group is to encircle the targets and prevent it from becoming a chase.

Shouldn’t the spider in the last panel be Dietzel?
No, that’s Mama Spider, Dietzel is in Digit’s lap
Nice to know Digit hangs with a social group.
That can’t really be Monica. Where’s the Band-Aid?
Either thigh? or perhaps on the Dark Side of the Knee? There’s lots of her legs we aren’t seeing here.
(“There is no dark side of the knee, really. Matter of fact, it’s all dark.”)
This makes me want to do a Pink Floyd/Monty Python mash-up. Thank you.
Frith, I’d pay to see that!
Good selection of anime. Just finished Princess Principal myself a couple weeks back, can’t wait for the 6 (!) movies to come.
Uhmmm… Did Monica have a breast reduction? Because that sure doesn’t look like her normally abundant self.
Sure doesn’t.
Yeah, I almost thought that was bud for a sec.
Thought it was Stela at first

I’ll take the crickets over the spiders, any day. *shudders*
Same here

If I wasn’t so afraid of spiders, this’d be cute as hell! (oh well)
Same
I got to wondering…how many crickets does it take to short-sheet Monica’s bed?
Just one, butt she has to know how to hide very well 😛
Ah! Made in abyss will fucking wreck you!!!
The crickets don’t stand a chance. They’re outnumbered at least 3 to 1.
I Love Girls Last Tour and Made in Abyss, never heard of the other two, I guess I have to look them up.
