I’m fairly certain that Nadette will suffer from her share of embarrassment and/or guilt in this little fracas. After all, she is the one who lost control in the first place …
@ steps forward, 100 steps back. Atsali’s going to be even more self conscious about things now that she’s accidentally harmed some one dear to her. :\
Poor Atsalli. I get Nadette is the physically wounded party here, but Atsalli is the one who’s been emotionally crushed. On the bright side, this will drive home that Atsalli needs to keep her power in check.Or she could really end up hurting someone.
Since she seems to have nothing worse than a black eye? Mind you, bears do have thick skulls (if not as thick as that of a siren, it seems)… and shape-shifters often have regenerative powers…
Atsali knocked a wild animal unconscious to defend her friends. Nadette turned into a bear to physically intimidate her friends in an argument. One of those two needs to work on her violent tendencies
This this this this. Everyone saying that Atsali needs to learn to control herself when EVERY TIME has been her reposing to a threat (or perceived threat)
Finally! Someone sees the real issue! Nadette goes violent lunatic, Atsali protects people from obviously raging violent animal; yet everyone seems to be focusing on Atsali like she was the one attacking someone without reason…
One of those friends is related to a god, Poseidon specifically, iirc. I think they’re not that easily intimidated. Further, I think you’re misinterpreting Nadette’s behaviour. Nadette was already worrying about her girlfriend, add the frustration of not having her worries being taken seriously by two friends and she started losing control over her physical form. She went full bear-mode to get their attention, not to intimidate them. The third panel in the May 12th strip is the equivalent of banging one’s fist on the table, not an attack or intimidation attempt. Look at the first panel from the May 16th, neither of them looks scared or hurt in any way, but they are beginning to consider that Nadette may have a point. They only look scared after the giant winged beast attacks and the fight begins.
I’m not saying you’re entirely wrong, but you’re definitely not completely right. As other posters have said in previous strips’ comments, Nadette may know what she’s talking about because she’s been there already, and is worrying that Atsali will go through the same experience of seriously hurting someone by accident and having to deal with the guilt and grief of that. I don’t think it was ever established just why the twins switched schools, it’s possible that Nadette “beared out” on someone in the past, and already has had to deal with the aftermath as well as develop strategies to deal with the emotions that triggered it in the first place and to keep it from happening again. She may see signs in Atsali’s behaviour suggesting something similar might happen to her.
Lastly, we see here how Atsali reacts to just having given her girlfriend a black eye due to a misunderstanding, consider how she’d react if she seriously hurt or even killed someone. If Nadette thinks Atsali might accidentally hurt or kill someone unless she learns how to control herself in risky situations, Nadette is right to worry about how that would affect her girlfriend.
On a meta-note, it’s not like suicide and attempts haven’t already happened in the comic.
this is good, but all i’m still feeling about it is “nadette thinks atsali developing a personality outside of being a bookworm is bad. atsali wanting to take risks and join things that are competitive is bad because she’s a predator and that is horrible!! she could seriously hurt someone and then she’s clearlu not a strong enough person to handle that!”
we’re giving atsali entirely too little credit for herself here?
Sali has repeatedly stated, and shown, she can not pick up on societal clues, being a semi-closeted book-nerd kept her isolated from people, now that she is getting the confidence to go out and interact is putting an untrained Alpha-level Predator amongst the pigeons
What happens if she comes across a pair of friends having a friendly scuffle and she reacts the same way? If one of the friends isn’t as resilient as Dette?
Nadette gets bear-hugged!
Atsali feels worse than Nadette.

No, Dette didn’t lose control

If anything, it might drive her to learn to better assess situations.
And actually go to Pred class to learn how to control that side of her
Fortunately they’re just outside the emergency room.
School nurse.
Big ol’ bears is tough!

Do you think Atsali’s sorry?
Of course, this being a school for paras, the school nurse has undoubtedly seen a LOT of this kind of thing.
Wow and ow. It took me a day to figure out that was Atsali.
if she was male, she would now be charged with domestic abuse and lose constitutional rights for the rest of her life.
Charged by whom? The Norwegian police?
Wow. MRA bullshit? Really?
Atsali, you REALLY need to apologize for this *rimshot*
And there goes a rib. “I will love her and squeeze her…”
bruised ribs to go with the bruised eye…
Definition of “crushing guilt”
