Hmm. I thought that Modern Kath was a bit more tuned in that when we first met her at the museum. She’s been a mom for a while, but leaving your oldest at college for the first time may have made her regress a bit, insecurity-wise.
Eh, I kinda relate to this a bit.. I used to be extremely, painfully introverted. I’m still introverted, but can put on a good face for work.. and sometimes actually just want to talk to people…
But… I’m weird.. and that never, ever seems to change…
Same here, pretty much. Not good with crowds, but I’ve managed to go to Supernova (think comic con on a smaller scale) the last 3 years and those things are the definition of crowd, so I think I’m getting better.
I wish I knew what part of the world Dragon Wall was in! With the portal system, it’s not as important as it would be in the mundane world, but the psychological distance might be overwhelming for Atsali — the equivalent nearly was for me, when I went to post-graduate school at Indiana University (Bloomington Indiana). It was only a 2½ drive north from Louisville, and my dorm room on the 12th floor of Eigenmann Hall faced south, so I got better TV reception of Louisville stations than I did back at home (this was before cable was generally available), but it felt like a foreign country! In retrospect, when I was working for ASAP Automation at projects all over the US and Canada, Bloomington was ‘just around the corner’!
When I left the backwoods of Upshur County, W.Va. and went to Marshall U in Huntington, I thought I was in the big city. It had a population of 89,000 at the time. The first place I heard an electronic siren on a cop car. I ran to the window to see what the heck was going on. It was a great town in ’66. Almost gone, now.
Is it just me, or does Nadette seem to be drawn with a Chuck Jones influence? I’d wager everyone is to some degree or another, but Nadette stands out the most to me, mainly in the smile.

It will all be okay, Kath.

There they are, seeing their girl off. I think Katherine is more anxious than Atsali.
Parents always are. Got two in college right now.
Your parents are in college?
wow…. Kath went full parent mode. It is the job of a parent to embarass their children at all times deemed appropriate moment

Happy 16th anniversary!
The word ‘hour’ somehow dropped out of the above.

Was Kath like this before the Red Sea incident, I wonder?
Wrong sea.
Better ‘Dead’ than ‘Red’!
Oops!
Meanwhile, Nadette is all, “That’s gonna be my mother-in-law some day and I couldn’t be prouder.”
Is it just me, or does Nadette seem to be drawn with a Chuck Jones influence? I’d wager everyone is to some degree or another, but Nadette stands out the most to me, mainly in the smile.
Nadette basking in Atsali’s praise, and humming happily to herself…
♫ Cheshire, that’s my baby!
No sir, I don’t mean maybe! ♫
I mean in general, not just this page.
In anguished tones :“Mooooooom!”
Skylar may discover that she’s not only acquired a roommate with a girlfriend but a second mom.
Which, depending on her own mom’s competence, might actually be a good thing.
There she goes, momming all over the new roommate.
Third panel is getting all the attention but just look at that 1st panel again.
😲Wow!!
Atsali’s breasts are being depicted here with cleavage that actually looks kinda …realistic (instead of with that accursed ” y ” cleavage😝) 😏
Uh, the “Y” shaped cleavage happens with pushup bras. The cleavage like in today’s comic is when it’s just a regular underwire.
Evidently, mom is not quite yet ready to untie those apron strings…
