Ah the look of long suffering with the patience learned over her century as a tea pot.

Maybe she was one of Tina’s tea pots in the cycles of the Calendar Machine where she collectd them. She could describe the aura in color.

i wonder what would happen if she were ever to do a comic cross-over into the Coffee of Doom coffee-shop from Questionable Content? they are sorta on a “tea smelling” arc over there with various types/styles of tea evoking various “visions” for the various robots in the comic… with Assam having an especially um… “unusual” response… would Ruri either be able to see the same vision as the tea sniffing robot, or maybe even possibly influence what the tea sniffee sees in the first place somehow?

I suspect that a humanized teapot sniffing tea from a teapot, might create a recursive self-referential implosion which would suck everyone in the coffee shop into some sort of dreadful hell dimension …

… where the only tea was Lipton in a bag, and the only coffee was Nescafe.

Huh… i wasn’t thinking along those lines, as good as they are… i was thinking more along the lines of: “What if they BREWED the tea IN Her teapot”?

honky-tonk hell where
the beer tastes like water
and the wine don’t never flow
juke box’s blown
if you wanna hear a song
twisted sister’s on the radio…

Hah! My guess would be an understanding on why they are smelling what they do.

I would love to read that cross over, in anycase.

She could have been one of Jin’s pots. I seem to remember something about her collecting tea pots.

Jin remembered Tina’s collection, that may have existed in one or more of the earlier cycles of the Calendar Machine. Tina didn’t.

That look of extreme… …tolerance on Ruri’s face.

Sometimes you love your roommate. Sometimes their body is found outside the commons.

The look on her face is only natural. You would expect a teapot tsukumogami to have a glazed expression at least occasionally.

Atsali needs to introduce Ruri to Jin, since Ms. Jin is (paraphrasing her talk with Alan) a ceramic container that often contains tea!

I wonder how Ruri would react to Atsali’s “g-girl” auntis (like Bud, Brandy, and [now possibly] Jin)?

Her first response forcefully reminded me of a sentence, from an Alexei Panshin novel, that burned itself into my memory fifty years ago. A thug/bodyguard has been shot or otherwise inconvenienced and:
‘I’m a little teapot’, he said, filled his pants, and died.

Was that “Rite Of Passage”, or one of the Anthony Villiers novels?

• GrantCMcCormick
September 28, 2017, 1:05 am | #

It was the first of the Anthony Villiers trilogy, Star Well. The entire trilogy is available as a single-volume eBook, New Celebrations, which is how I have it.

And great-grands cherished tea pot is spontaneously a baby girl. How would you like to wake up to that in the morning? Would tsukumogami be plausible Boltzmann brains?

Think of all the poor bidets, spittoons and other less savory items that could technically be well used and loved (let me tell you, I do indeed love my ADA compliant toilet over the old barely high enough for a toddler model). . . they could be coming to life too if thy last a hundred years.

I recently watched an anime about this. “Tsugumomo” has a tsukumogami that is an obi. Good bit of folklore in that show.

Would special circumstances be required for animating artifacts? Aside from just being loved? Otherwise nothing over 100 years would exist.

She might have repeated the last line with different words, or something like that. But yes, the meter is not good in some of the lines, unless Paul learned a different version of the tune than I did. Here’s the original as I learned it:

I’m a little teapot, short and stout
Here is my handle, here is my spout
When the water’s boiling hear me shout!
Just tip me over and pour me out.

It’s probably just that Alana isn’t very good at writing parody lyrics, though. Funny girl, but no sense of rhythm. 8-P
