Apparently whatever comment Shelly made about Monica’s swollen ass has shocked both the personification of Death, and the actress who played Isis in the 1970s Saturday morning show of the same name…
Towards the end of the month a few votes don’t mean as much, statistically speaking, as they do towards the beginning.
Only a few dozen votes here and there, a sudden rush of 20-30 of a site’s regular readers can make it suddenly jump. Towards the end of the month after hundreds (or thousands) of votes, takes a LOT more to make a difference.
So after about week 3, barring any sudden floods of votes, your standing is pretty solid. Of course, that’s right about when some of the less scrupulous sites will start using dirty tricks to try and inflate their score at the last minute, almost like eBay bid snipers.
Also means you can pretty much ignore the standings in the first couple days … your position could be random or even alphabetical until votes start arriving, and could be during a time of the week when most of the readers are off doing something else.
(For non-US audiences, this is a reference to our Fearless Author having a nasty tendency to violently “shift gears” from one storyline to another, and thereby causing great damage to all of our mental “transmissions” – think of ones like you would find in a car or truck.)
I must be lucky then, I striped my mental Transmission many years ago; So I do not get mental whiplash. But is is nice that it may be time to go after another loose end in the story.
Seriously, tho, who is that? Is it a new character? It doesn’t look like Jin. My wife thinks it’s Tina’s soul, which would track with the grim reaper there, I guess.
Might be ‘Crispy’, the little girl killed long ago by the Chimera who seems to be haunting Jin. We haven’t see her since before Jin became more human; she might be about to make a re-appearance…
I like the contrast between the frightened girl and the skeletal figure. He makes her all the more beautiful and sympathetic and she makes him/her all the more hideous and terrifying. What’s going on here? Is she frightened of the figure (is it Death), or what turned the figure to ash, maybe? The ground looks like it was molten at one time and kinda glassy. Not to mention the white streaky looking things in the sky. Are the 3Amigos responsible? It’s going to be a long weekend.
You’re getting damn’ good with those “Jesus Christ in a Handbasket!” panels, aincha? You know the ones I mean: where the thunk as your jaw hits the floor (or the top of your desk) registers on the seismometer and your gasp is audible two cubicles down. Especially effective after all those “simple” (so called) panels this week. (Well, they were simple, in a nice, restful sort of way. Not in a “You’re slacking off” sort of way.) Splendid work. Make this a print, and I’d buy it in a heartbeat.
Makes perfect sense to ME… Pretty sure that’s how I’M gonna bite it. I’ll be runnin’ down the street after one o’ those things, driver will think he hears something & slam the brakes suddenly, I’ll run smack into the back of the truck, driver will decide he needs to reverse – *tha-THUMP!* – driver stops, looks out his window trying to figger out where his potential customer went, then shrug & drive *THUMP-tha* off, leaving me there lying on the pavement gazing up at yonder pale grinning visage.
I won’t be runnin’ – I’ll be sitting there, in a pile of greasy goodness wrappers, smiling beatificly, when that vital artery in my brain/heart slams shut and the cholesterol locks it.
I was greatly suprised when I started traveling to find out comics that I thought were dead and gone, alive and well in newspapers in other states. (This was before da interwebs)This made me pissed off at my Hometown newspaper, because I really liked some of those comics and hated a number of the replacements.
That is not a good sign!
Jin is having a bad day. Or night. Or dream. Or psychotic episode. Or something!
Considering all that Jin’s been through. I’d wager all of the above simultaneously. The poor girls mind is like a fractured stained glass window.
I think this is the prospect of her own mortality colliding with the past.
?????????
This is the little girl that was vaporized by the chimera back in the early days of the strip, and near the beginning of the story.
Got that. I was just reacting to the sudden mood whiplash.
Hell of a Friday strip after the last four…
Yeah… That’s quite a non sequitur…
But it’s one heck of a cliff-hanger.
It’s a cliff she’s been hanging from for twelve thousand five hundred and twelve years.
Hey that looks like my last girlfriend!
Hiss!! Boo!! XP
Which one? The “skinny background character” or the girl in the front?
If it’s the former, one advise: mortuaries are a bad place to look for a partne,,,
I didn’t meet her in a mortuary, but she did need to start eating more!
Huhbuwhuuu? O_o
I haven’t seen a change of mood that severe outside of Happy Tree Friends.
<3 Happy Tree Friends…and I don't care how weird my friends and family think I am for enjoying those cartoons!
That 3 1/2 min video train was a “trifle yucky’ – wouldn’t want a youngster to see it.
Apparently whatever comment Shelly made about Monica’s swollen ass has shocked both the personification of Death, and the actress who played Isis in the 1970s Saturday morning show of the same name…
Sometimes, I SO with these comments had a “like” button…
“Oh Zephyr winds that blow on high, lift me now so that I can fly”.
Aww crap! Hére we go… >.<
The riddle of Jin's "melting face girl" is going to be next me thinks..
Ah ha. Thought she looked familiar.
Or Paul is just throwing us a curve ball for Friday and a whole different arc gets started next week.
Ah shit! It’s Friday already? Gotta stop working 7 days a week!
My thoughts exactly! 🙂
Paul confirmed who the girl is in a comment below! 🙂
Okay – she’s Bud’s plasma girl and she’s haunting Jin?
Since they experienced her ‘together’ as the Chimera, all the GG’s have that memory – and may all be haunted by it.
What’s Jin got to do with it? All I see is Plasma Girl running from Death.
Jin also knows Plasma Girl. http://wapsisquare.com/comic/little-girl/
Ah. Thanks.

Here we go again! If this is what Paul thinks about when he wakes up, may I suggest plain pizzas from now on?
IT’S THE CANNED SALMON!
No. It was the Salmon Mousse!
‘the salmon mousse’ if yer goin’ Monty Python on us.
‘ hey wait!! I didn’t have the salmon mousse……’
Or was it This?

wrong link??

This is the most morbid ticker-tape parade I’ve ever seen….
lolz!
Bee stings lead to Charon.
It makes perfect sense!
I do not wanna play ‘Hide and Seek” with that guy!
Aren’t we all hiding from him anyway?
Yep. You just thought of The Game.
….and he ALWAYS wins…..
What happened to the rating box – it was 45 through the week and now it’s at 145..
Well, it’s that time of the month again…
No, not that one – the one where the TWC rankings get reset on the first…
Now it’s down to 59 – screwy..

::shrugs:: It’s all good heh.
Thanks for filling me in – was not aware of the mechanics on the scoring . I just reacted as to “How dare they give Wapsi such a low rating “
Back up to 36…
Oh, and yeah … Paul, can you draw me a neck brace? I think I cracked a bone in my neck from the whiplash on this one. >.<
Wonder where this is going …
OK that grim reaper has seriously entered contention for my next tattoo… You do high res commissions Paul? lol
#### it, Pablo, you dropped the tranny again!

seriouse morning after situation…

Your art style has come a long way since then. I didn’t immediately recognize her; luckily, for future re-reads, she keeps the same headband.
Might be ‘Crispy’, the little girl killed long ago by the Chimera who seems to be haunting Jin. We haven’t see her since before Jin became more human; she might be about to make a re-appearance…
“Uh, Your Royalty? There’s a Mr Skeletor here to see you?”
Like.

what is this? the Ghost and Mrs. Maya?
Lovely movie: The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. Worth a rental if you can find it.
The TV series was much less so.
Well when you take a great love story and try to give it sitcom properties it is gonna be bad.
You’re getting damn’ good with those “Jesus Christ in a Handbasket!” panels, aincha? Just click on the “buy print” button right below the comic, and your wish is answered. =D
Never noticed the “buy print” button before! Thanks, Paul! 🙂
[sigh] When will I learn to close off the wakas? The bolding should cover only the “thunk”.
Anyone else think that Death needs a guitar?
…and voiced by Non MacDonald?
NORM! damn arthritic fingers!
Loved when he was the voice of Death on Family Guy.
Right on Doc!
Also Drew Carey’s high school bully…
Paul, did you decide to kick off the summer by reading us some scary stories to tell in the dark? I’m so glad you’re using the original art style!
I was thinking he needs a horse named Binky.
Only the Death of Discworld rides a pale horse named Binky. What the death of Wapsiworld rides has yet to be revealed.
I have come to the conclusion that the Death of our world drives a food truck. Think about it.
Makes perfect sense to ME… Pretty sure that’s how I’M gonna bite it. I just realized that, in a non-drunken stupor, my post was unrelated to anything! Someone fine me.
17.5 Quatloos to the Bailiff at once!
I would prefer not to.
The pun jar may accept Triskellion currency, but the Bailiff does not. 😛
There was no pun. I’m just a humble scrivener!
Nah, was referring to OW’s reference to using quatloos … you’re good. 😉
I found another pun jar!

omfg! That comic still lives? Yeesh, been years since I read that one.
And thanks, btw, for making me feel as old as I do when I realize just how long that comic’s been around. 😛

Must bookmark! Haven’t seen Broom Hilda in almost 15 years! Gad has it really been that long?
Used to read Broom Hilda regularly… in 1972. Amazing longevity for a strip.
For those who need a random link:
http://wapsisquare.com/comic/smoresandcider/
Hey! Is there a random link for those of us who don’t need one?
Well – got my Pib and CWL fix while waiting …
Well, hello, Bia.
So this is Bia!?
