I can understand it working with an adopted daughter, but someone who technically outranks her in MIB (Tactical Director versus Paranormal Relations), and Bud is not one who is exactly tolerant over someone who gives her crap or oversteps their boundaries, as she had done with Monica, Brandi, and Shelly just to name a few examples. I’m not even going to go into Katherine’s doing this in front of civilians.
No, Bud does not outrank Katherine. In the “Stay out of her way” strip, Bud tells Tsillah that Katherine is above MIB, that they stay out of her way and cover her tracks when she leaves.
Maybe Katherine is also a Bene Gesserit sister. (Dune) using THE (mom) VOICE. Also Bud understands NEVER come between a mother and her child. And when said mother asks about things that concern her child answer carefully, honestly and accurately. And be ready to retreat.

Katherine may be mortal but she is a special case. If I remember correctly she has a connection to the original Lanthians. Bud, despite being a part of the Chimera and having nuclear weapon level powers herself, still has a teenaged girl at the heart of her personality.
Man I’ll tell ya, if I had the chops to pull it off, there’s a lot of people in my life who would greatly benefit from a quick “speak quickly and plainly” command.
You have to remember that despite Bud being an over ten thousand year old golem, she is also permanently stuck in her late teens, she was like 18 or something when she was sacrificed and made part of the chimera, mom voice will probably still effect her.
I also wonder if Kath’s 4 in 1 soul effects her mom voice, I mean imagine 4 moms scolding you at the same time.
Actually it’s worse because I remembered wrong, she’s a 6 in 1 soul, each 4th baby of six sets of quadruplets.
I wonder if it sounds a bit like the Borg from Star Trek, but without the electronic/robotic reverb added, just six voices layered on top of each other perfectly.
I say again, the world will unravel when Kath is gone…. that is unless their is something else at play with her that voids the mortality part. I do find it more than a bit suspect that she’s linked to all these once in a lifetime events and entities though and nothing is going on that we know of.
We still don’t know how her being six people in one affects her mortality, she seems to be aging normally like other human characters, on the other hand there are these hints that she’s definitely more then “just” six humans merged into a single one.
She’s survived things that would probably have killed most people, so either she’s really lucky, very good at dodging bullets and explosions, or more durable then we’ve been let to believe, also the recent revelation to Castela that she carved up the surviving helicopter pilot that attacked her dig “…into so many pieces that it looked like a macabre deli”, while doable for a human, it doesn’t completely feel that way, at least not to me.
We also know next to nothing of Kath’s parentage, only Lily is know, she was still human when she was pregnant, but beyond that, even Lily’s husband is not known to us, any of the 11 unknown parents could have been some kind of para as far as we know.
Actually, that was what I was thinking. Did we ever find out what Katherine’s rank was in the Air Force? This sounds like a senior NCO level of chewing out. (Not to say that officers can’t do chewing out, but it takes a few years to get the tone correct.) Mom voice isn’t so much a subset of command voice in this case, but Mom Voice and Command Voice double-teaming to reduce the target to a quivering mass.

I think the winning combo of this installment is the MOM voice in combination with the MOM love which is where the real power comes from. The voice without the love does not have the same power.

Mom Voice is a special subset of Ccommand Voice, which in turn is a special subset of Command Presence . . . I suspect Katherine has both.
Strong Command Presence will generally cause instant obedience from anybody.
