Techie types sometimes refer to it as a LART – Luser Attitude Readjustment Tool.

The best are made from ebony, or any of various species known popularly as ironwood.

That one was first popularized by a denizen of Napalm Luck [the Very Popular FORUM of Chris’s MISFILE Comic.] The Soul Revers will be looking for you now. [I’ve got dibs.]
Not to worry. They’re a good bunch, Relax.
For those that aren’t building an F.T.L. Drive or Doomsday Device, or experimenting with Soups, and Sauces, it’s primarily a Catch-Tag-Release Program.

O……K! This is right up there with trying to explain how the Nile can flow UP
    the map on the wall.

No. All rivers flow downhill. This is due to gravity, and water’s cohesive properties.

You have a wall along which the water flows upward? Is the “top” of the wall somehow lower than its “bottom?” What has the Nile got to do with it?

Your dealing with a particular brand of twisted logic. The Nile river does, in fact flow NORTH [to the Nile Delta, and the sea.] The illogical assumption is that ALL the rivers on a paper map, must flow South, because they are subject to the force of gravity. North is up.
        It’s a Joke Son!

The amusing thing is that brand of logic is very old indeed when it comes to the Nile.
The ancient Egyptians had one river, which was majorly important for their life in the desert, so they built it into their religion. Then they were surprised and baffled by finding large rivers elsewhere that flowed “in the wrong direction” (i.e. Not from the midday sun towards the north)

That’s the thing about crushes. The people who have them are usually the last to know. Take this into the real world and to it’s logical, painful conclusion and you have things like “The Remains of the Day,” when two people who are madly in love with each other can’t ever admit it – to themselves or to each other – and fade off into a long night of loneliness and regret.
